During the current lockdown, newspapers are struggling with distribution problems on the one hand and copying of their e-papers and digital piracy on the other. This is causing loss of revenue to newspapers. With this in mind, the Indian Newspaper Society has warned that it is illegal to download pages from e-papers of newspapers and share their PDF files in WhatsApp or Telegram groups. Newspapers can take strict legal and hefty fines against anyone who illegally shares on social media by copying an e-paper or part of it.
